On November 24, 2021, the audio tour “Montmartre: Van Gogh et autres peintres néerlandais” was presented. This was done in a special way, as part of Musea22. This is an event in Paris, organized by the Netherlands Bureau for Tourism and Congresses in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Paris. During this annual event, major Dutch museums presented their program for the coming year to dozens of journalists from France, England and Belgium. Normally this takes place in different rooms in one location, but this time the journalists walked part of our audio tour centered around Vincent van Gogh and other Dutch painters. The tour, which started at the Musée de Montmartre, took them through the most charming part of Montmartre. On the way to the next museum presentations, they listened to parts of our audio tour. Go to the YouTube link below for a short view of this event.
The Van Gogh audio tour revolves around Dutch painters such as Vincent van Gogh, Johan Barthold Jongkind, George Breitner, and Kees van Dongen who all lived in Paris in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We made this and another audio tour, on Dutch artist in Montparnasse, commissioned by the Dutch Embassy in Paris. Next to the French audio tour we also made an English/Dutch version, “Montmartre: Van Gogh and Other Dutch Painters”.
It was a very nice assignment: finding out which Dutch painters have lived and worked in Paris, looking for information and visual material, puzzling on who fit in the routes (which unfortunately meant that some names had to be dropped), writing texts, having them translated into English and French and have them recorded, then put all parts of the audio tours in the izi.TRAVEL app, and walk the tours on location several times to make sure that all information can be heard in the right place at the right time.
