Eagle History Audio Tour in Aruba

On June 16, 2024, an audio tour was presented in Aruba about the former Eagle Refinery and its role in World War II, the Eagle History Audio Tour.

On the initiative and on behalf of the Aruba Monument Fund, Evert Bongers, who lives in Aruba, created this short audio tour together with Mariska Hammerstein and Anco Nanninga of the Dutch Heritage World Tours Foundation. At each of the five tour stops part of the story about the Eagle Refinery is told. At the time the Refinery was also known by its Dutch name: Arend Refinery. The stories are in four languages: English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamentu.

Light images were created by Glen Goddijn at two of the five points. A photo of the staff from that time is projected on Eagle’s former headquarters and sounds from the refinery can be heard. On the beach, where a torpedo fired by a German submarine landed during the war, this location is marked with a green beam. The Eagle History Audio Tour can be found in the izi.TRAVEL travel and museum app.
